Tension escalated at Chandotara Square under the Sindhekela Police Station in Bolangir district on Sunday morning as locals staged a road blockade demanding adequate compensation for the family of a youth who lost his life after being struck by a bus.

The deceased has been identified as Pitabas Behera, a resident of Bolangir.

According to sources, a local bus traveling from Raipur to Bhawanipatna hit Behera at Chandotara Square on October 22. He was hospitalized in critical condition in Raipur but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday night. 

In response to this tragedy, the deceased’s family organized the road blockade, calling for an investigation into the incident.

The blockade has disrupted vehicular movement between the Khadial and Bhawanipatna routes, leaving numerous vehicles stranded.

Meanwhile, Sindhekela police have seized the bus involved in the accident and are currently engaging with the public to address their concerns. No official response from the police regarding the incident has been released yet.
