Bhubaneswar: Odisha's Chief Secretary has been named Pradeep Kumar Jena. He will succeed incumbent Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, who is set to retire on February 28 after two six-month extensions.

Jena, an Odisha cadre IAS officer from 1989, was serving as Development Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, and Secretary, Planning and Convergence, with additional responsibilities as Agriculture Production Commissioner, Special Relief Commissioner, and MD, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA).

Anu Garg will take over as Development Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary, Planning and Convergence, and Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources, according to an official notification issued on Sunday.

Jena's name was floated as a possible candidate for the top bureaucratic position last year. However, following the Centre's green light to continue in service, the state government decided to give Mahapatra another extension.
