Gaza health officials reported that an Israeli air strike targeted a group of policemen in a school that was sheltering displaced Palestinians, resulting in the deaths of at least 11 people on Sunday. The Israeli military stated that they had struck a Hamas command center at the same location.

According to civil defense agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal, eleven individuals, including a woman and a girl, were killed in the air strike on the Safad school in Gaza City. The school, which was housing displaced people, also reportedly had a Hamas police outpost. Several others were wounded in the attack, as per Gaza health officials speaking on condition of anonymity.

On the Israeli military side, they asserted that their air force had targeted a Hamas command center located within the Safad school. They stated, "The IAF struck Hamas terrorists who were operating within a command and control center embedded inside the area that previously served as the Safad school in Gaza City."

The conflict between Israel and Hamas began after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. According to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, this conflict has resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people, mostly civilians. Since then, the Israeli military has continuously carried out air, sea, and ground strikes against the Gaza Strip, leading to at least 40,738 deaths, according to the territory's health ministry. The UN has reported that the majority of the casualties are women and children.
