A notorious criminal from Bihar sustained bullet injuries following a police encounter while attempting to loot an ATM in the Badagada area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.
According to sources, an exchange of fire occurred between police personnel and the armed robber during the attempted heist. Authorities fired in a controlled manner and shot the accused in the leg when he attempted to flee under the cover of gunfire.
The police apprehended the suspect, identified as Deepak Kumar, who is reportedly part of an interstate ATM robbery gang. He was initially taken to Capital Hospital for medical care but was later transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar after his condition worsened.
Repeat Offender Arrested:
Reports indicate that several cases of ATM robbery and other offenses have been registered against Deepak Kumar at various police stations. An investigation is underway to track down other members of the gang and to ascertain the source of their weapons and their modus operandi.
Major Breakthrough Amid Rising Cases:
This encounter comes in response to a significant increase in ATM robbery cases in the state capital. In a major crackdown, the Twin City Commissionerate Police announced on Saturday that it had arrested six individuals in connection with an ATM heist that occurred in January.
In that incident, CCTV footage showed four masked men smashing an ATM loaded with cash and then loading it onto a stolen auto-rickshaw before fleeing. The suspects subsequently cut open the ATM’s cash chamber, looted the money, and discarded the machine in the Gangua Canal.
