In a significant boost for the tourism sector, direct flight services from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar to Goa will be launched on April 1, 2025. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, IndiGo will operate these flights four days a week as part of the Odisha government's New Destination Policy.

The flights will be available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating the commencement of direct flight services between Bhubaneswar and Goa, emphasizing that this development will unlock new opportunities for tourism, trade, and commerce.

Domestic Expansion Plans

In 2025, Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) introduced several new domestic routes. IndiGo began operating flights to Indore four times a week and to Dehradun three times a week starting January 1. On January 3, Air India Express launched three weekly routes to Lucknow and Jaipur, as well as daily flights to Kochi. Bengaluru services commenced on January 4. In March, Air India Express added daily flights from Ghaziabad (Hindon) to Bhubaneswar and from Port Blair to Bhubaneswar starting March 30, while IndiGo initiated the Goa-Bhubaneswar flights on April 1.

Infrastructure Development at Bhubaneswar Airport

In October 2024, a new terminal building was announced to accommodate projected passenger growth. These upgrades at the airport align with India's aviation sector expansion plans under Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu.
