Ganjam: On Thursday, one person died and 12 others were injured in two separate vehicle accidents in the district.
A private bus toppled on the Kulangi-Kaliaguda route under Gangapur police station in the first incident when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
According to sources, the bus was transporting more than 30 passengers on its route from Sorada to Bhanjanagar. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to save a biker who was riding recklessly. As a result, the bus overturned on the side of the road, injuring 12 passengers, according to them.
Firefighters arrived on the scene after being alerted and rescued the injured. They were admitted to a Bhanjanagar hospital for initial treatment. The incident has prompted Gangapur police to launch an investigation.
At the other tragedy, the driver of a private bus perished in Digapahandi after being struck by an auto-rickshaw.
The bus was on its route from Bhubaneswar to Chikiti, according to sources. The driver, a Nayagarh local, parked the car on the side of the road to attend to nature's call.
He was standing on the side of the road when he was hit from behind by an auto-rickshaw, and he died instantly. In addition, four passengers in the auto-rickshaw were hurt.
When the police were notified, they hurried to the scene and rescued the injured people.
