Sambalpur: Seven people were arrested for allegedly stealing diesel worth around Rs 26 lakh from an Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) oil pipeline in Odisha's Sambalpur district.

The accused had stolen diesel from IOCL's Sambalpur-Jatni pipeline in Hatibari, which is under the jurisdiction of the district's Jujumura police station.

According to police, the petrol pump owner is from Kalahandi district, while four others are from Sambalpur and two from Bargarh.

They said an oil tanker tanker, a car, and a generator used in the theft had been seized, and that the arrested accused's bank account had also been frozen.

The accused, according to Sambalpur Superintendent of Police B Gangadhar, stole approximately 8,500 litres of diesel from a pipeline that ran through the Hathibari forest.

When IOCL officials discovered that the diesel was being stolen somewhere, they filed a complaint with the Jujumara police station, and police launched an investigation.

An investigation is underway to determine whether or not other people are also involved in the crime.
