Odisha Bank Officer Ended Life After Being Blackmailed With Nude Calls: Police

Sonepur: Nearly four months after the death of bank officer Dibyaranjan Mishra, police revealed on Monday that he committed himself due to extreme mental stress after being blackmailed by a Rajasthan gang over a naked call.

While two people have been detained in connection with the killing of a Punjab National Bank (PNB) worker, police have launched a manhunt to find the remainder of the group that stole Rs 26 lakh from Dibyaranjan.

According to Sonepur Superintendent of Police Amaresh Panda, Dibyaranjan was blackmailed over nude calls by the gang that had extracted more than Rs 26 lakh from him in 40 online transactions by posing as CBI officers.

Even after paying Rs 26 lakh, he was pressed for more money by the group and took the drastic action.

Police established a case and began an inquiry when the bank official's family filed a complaint. Two days after the complaint was submitted, Dibyaranjan's body was retrieved out of the Anga river with the assistance of an ODRAF crew.

A special police squad investigated the incident and brought the two suspects, Mehboob and his helper Adil, from Rajasthan. According to the SP, the accused utilized the money taken from Dibyaranjan to buy a new automobile.

Police seized the automobile and a mobile phone in their possession.

During the duo's interrogation, it was discovered that the gang members had made naked calls to Dibyaranjan and blackmailed him in order to obtain the money.

Dibyaranjan, an agriculture officer with the PNB's Barpali branch, had gone missing until his body was discovered in the river on August 13.
