BJD Charges BJP Leader and Reporter With Distributing Cash Padampur Elections

Bhubaneswar: Even as voting in the Padampur assembly constituency continued on Monday, with 65.28% voter turnout until 3 p.m., the BJD filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, Sushil Kumar Lohani, seeking action against the leader of the BJP Kalahandi Krishak Morcha and a reporter for a local media channel.

While the ruling party accused Sudhir Patjoshi, a general secretary of the saffron party in the state, of distributing money among voters in Chheliamal village, Kechhodadar gram panchayat under Paikmal block, it also claimed that a local channel's report prompted them to level cash-for-vote charges against the BJD.

"In the video annexed with this plea, the reporter can be plainly seen coercing a voter in Bijadihi village, Paikmal block, Padampur, to state that the BJD had paid him Rs 2,000 while recording it on his mobile phone while standing next to a white car," the memorandum said.

"Voters are being threatened if they do not say the same thing on camera," it stated.

"We trust that this incriminating information will assist you in taking action against the BJP leader and reporters who are flagrantly breaking the electoral laws and model code of conduct," it added.
