Odisha plans to develop Bhubaneswar into an IT hub similar to Hyderabad, with a substantial budget of Rs 408 crore.

Odisha is poised for a significant transformation in both its rural and urban landscapes as the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government unveils an ambitious budget. This initiative allocates a substantial amount of ₹408 crore to develop a new metropolis in Bhubaneswar, akin to the dynamic city of Hyderabad.

The primary goal is to construct a new Bhubaneswar that will stimulate economic growth and urban development, drawing inspiration from Hyderabad's success as a major IT hub. Additionally, the Odisha BJP, under Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, plans to convert 15 cities into five tri-city clusters.

New Satellite City within Bhubaneswar

A key strategic initiative is underway to create a new satellite city within Bhubaneswar, encompassing 322 hectares. This project aims to enhance the region's infrastructure across various sectors, particularly in IT. Modeled after Hyderabad’s urban framework, this development is part of the state's comprehensive plan for improving infrastructure.

This initiative is expected to attract significant investments and generate numerous job opportunities. The allocation of ₹408 crore is designated for establishing this thriving urban center. Furthermore, the Odisha government is prioritizing the expedited completion of the Metro project, which will include a new ring road to improve traffic flow.

Transforming Urban Towns into Economic Hubs

Additionally, the Odisha government is set to spur urban development with a budget allocation of ₹1,100 crore. This initiative seeks to transform multiple urban regions into economic powerhouses. The plan focuses on enhancing five urban corridors: Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri, Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Baragarh, Jeypore-Sunabeda-Koraput, Chatrapur-Brahmapur-Gopalpur, and Keonjhar-Badbil-Joda. These areas are envisioned as future economic hubs, crucial for boosting local economies and infrastructure.

The scheme will emphasize the development of creation centers and tourism circuits, along with significant advancements in logistics, higher education facilities, and medical services. Odisha's vision includes multiple iconic infrastructure projects to enhance connectivity and improve public services in the targeted regions.

What CM Mohan Majhi Said About the Ambitious Projects

“We plan to construct a new city within Bhubaneswar, and land for this purpose has already been identified. Our goal is to transform Bhubaneswar to resemble Hyderabad. Currently, ring roads are under construction to alleviate traffic congestion. This development is expected to boost local employment opportunities and promote infrastructural improvements, ultimately benefiting our capital city,” the Chief Minister stated.

“In addition, we will develop the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri corridor into an economic hub. Moreover, the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Baragarh, Jeypore-Sunabeda-Koraput, Chatrapur-Brahmapur-Gopalpur, and Keonjhar-Badbil-Joda areas will undergo similar transformations,” he added.

Housing & Urban Development Minister’s Remarks

“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to prevent flooding, protect residences from floodwaters, and address drainage issues in Bhubaneswar, with an allocation of ₹8 crore. The team will prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and submit it for verification before beginning the transformation work,” stated Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra.

“Furthermore, other new towns will be planned with essential amenities, including parks, sewerage systems, and proper road facilities,” the Minister added.
