Odisha: 48-Hour Paikmal Bandh Over 3-Point Charter Of Demands

Bargarh: The 48-hour bandh called by the Milita Kriyanusthan Committee (joint action committee) in Paikmal starting today over a three-point charter of demands has disrupted normal life in the region ahead of the Padampur bypoll in Odisha's Bargarh district.

According to reports, the joint action committee called the two-day bandh to press three-point charter of demands, including the designation of Paikmal Primary Health Centre (PHC) as an Area Hospital, the grant of Notified Area Council (NAC) status to Paikmal, and the grant of district status to the Padampur sub-division.

After the bandh began at 6 a.m., shops, marketplaces, and financial institutions remained closed, while schools and colleges remained closed in Paikmal.

Protesters burned tyres and stopped national highways in various areas, but police swooped in and cleared the roadways.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised that the Padampur sub-division would be granted district status by December 31, 2023.
