Puri: On Wednesday evening, a major fire broke out at a shopping complex in Puri town. Firefighters have rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

According to sources, the fire broke out at the Laxmi Market complex, which houses over 40 shops and a hotel on the top floor in the holy town of Mirichikote Chhak.

While the cause of the fire has not been determined, it is believed to have been caused by an electric short circuit. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the structure.

A fire department response team was dispatched. A dress material shop on the market's first floor was destroyed. However, the extent of the damage will not be determined until the fire is brought under control, according to sources.

When the last report came in, the fire had not been put out. It is reported that efforts are being made to keep the fire from spreading to nearby shops and houses in the densely populated area.

Six fire tenders were dispatched to put out the fire. It was discovered that two of the fire personnel became ill during the exercise. They were rushed to the hospital right away.

As a precaution, steps are being taken to remove the hotel's occupants.
