Odisha Assembly pays homage to Gen Bipin Rawat and other personnel

Bhubaneswar: On Thursday, the Odisha Legislative Assembly passed a condolence motion for Chief of Army Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, and 11 defence personnel killed in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu's Coonoor.

In the House, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik moved a condolence motion. "With deep sorrow, I tell the House about General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika ji, and 11 other armed forces personnel's untimely deaths in a terrible helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on December 8," he stated in the motion.

"He had a long and illustrious career that spanned over four decades of unselfish dedication and valour. "The Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, and many other important decorations have been bestowed to him," the chief minister stated.

"The death of General Bipin Rawat is a big loss to the country," said senior Congress politician Narasingha Mishra. His untimely death in an IAF chopper crash implies either a significant failure or a plot."

Surjya Narayan Patro, BJP member Bishnu Charan Sethi, who spoke on behalf of Opposition chief whip Mohan Charan Majhi, and Communist leader Laxman Munda all spoke in support of the resolution.

In honour of the fallen spirits, the House conducted a minute of silence.
