Union Education Minister has sought inclusion of Buddhist sites in Odisha
Odisha: The Minister of Union Education has attempted to incorporate the Buddhist sites of Odisha within the Swadesh Darshan Centre.
It is regrettable that, in his letter to Minister of Culture G-Kishan Reddy, the government was not included on the Buddhist Circuit and no plans under the system, despite the fact that the Buddhism had flourished in Odisha with several monasteries and stupa.
Pradhan stated Buddhism was regarded an Odisha state religion throughout the 8th to 10th centuries of the Bhaumakara kingdom. He stated that Lord Buddha's earliest pupils were Tapasu and Bhallika, who came from the current city of Jajpur.
"While Buddhism came into Odisha long before the Kalinga War, it was under Emperor Ashoka's sponsorship in the area. The most known poet of Odisha Jayadeva also described Lord Buddha as one of Lord Vishnu's incarnations in the twelfth century."
He also highlighted to the fact that several Buddhist sites like Dhaulagiri, Lalitagiri, Udayagiri, Ratnagiri and Jiranng attract enormous numbers of national and international travellers.
"However, there is no need for the tourist services in these Buddhist places such as connection, accommodations, utilities, etc.," added Pradhan.
The Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned five projects in the Buddhist circuit development project Rs 325.53 Crore in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh under Swadesh Darshan. It may be observed.
