Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the president and Chief Minister of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), was named to the party's list of 40 star campaigners for the Brajrajnagar by-election on Tuesday.

The Assembly seat is up for election on May 31 and is expected to be a triangular battle between BJD's Alaka Mohanty, BJP's former MLA Radharani Panda, and Congress' Kishore Chandra Patel.

While Naveen may campaign in Brajarajnagar if necessary, there is only one Ollywood actor on the list: Arindam Roy. The list includes five women and more BJD leaders from western Odisha.

Five Union Ministers will campaign in support of the BJP's candidate in the byelection, according to a list filed to the Election Commission of India. Piyush Goel, Dharmendra Pradhan, Pralhad Joshi, Aswini Viashnaw, and Biseswar Tudu are the names on the list.

Bhupesh Baghel, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, and Kanhaiya Kumar, a young activist, will campaign for Congress candidate Kishore Chandra Patel. In-charge of Odisha The campaign will also feature A Chellakumar, OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik, Kantabanji MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, former OPCC president Sarat Patnaik, former OPCC president Jayadev Jena, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Mohammed Moquim, Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra, Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati, and Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray.

A total of 2,14,261 electors are eligible to vote in the bypoll, which was forced owing to the death of BJD MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty in Brajarajnagar on December 30 last year. The bypoll will be held on May 31 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with the results being announced on June 3.
