Leopard skin seized, one held in Bolangir
Balangir: In the district, the Odisha Crime Branch's Special Task Force (STF) confiscated a leopard skin and detained a person in connection with it.
An STF squad and Forest officials raided the house of Adikand Gheewala of Tikrapada under Saintala police limits on Thursday evening after receiving reliable information regarding the hide.
A leopard skin and other incriminating items were discovered during the investigation of the house. The STF apprehended Adikand after the accused failed to present any documentation from any authority proving his ownership of the leopard skin.
Adikand was later detained after being handed over to forest officials. The origins of the leopard hide is being investigated, according to an STF announcement.
On April 10, the STF seized a leopard hide near Daberi hamlet in the Kandhamal district's Daringbadi police limits and detained one individual.
STF has captured 28 leopard skins, 24 elephant tusks, seven deer skins, 13 live pangolins, over 30 kg pangolin scales, two leopard teeth, 29 leopard claws, and 46 wild parrots during its special drive against wildlife smugglers and poachers since 2020. According to the press announcement, 68 people have been arrested for wildlife smuggling.
