Bhubaneswar: Fire and Navy personnel recovered the body of a boat passenger who went missing after the vessel capsized in Chilika Lake on Thursday. Rajkishore Khuntia (60) of Kodapur in Balugaon has been identified.

The boat flipped near Chadheiguha hill at 4.30 pm on Thursday due to nor'wester-induced severe wind and rain, and five teams of Navy and fire officials were involved in the rescue operation. According to local authorities, the boat lost its balance due to the wind.

When the boat overturned while returning from Kalijai island to Balugaon in Khurda district, it was carrying 12 people, including two boatmen. Nine tourists from Nilagiri in the Balasore region, as well as the boat driver, a shopkeeper, and his employee, were among the passengers.

One person went missing after 11 people were rescued shortly after the incident.

"We worked at Barkul Panthanivas on the Chilika Lake's bank. At around 5 p.m., we received information about the event and dispatched our workers to the scene. "We rescued 11 people," said Balugaon SDPO Manas Ranjan Barik.

The missing person was a Balugaon shopkeeper who operated a shop on Kalijai Island.
