Kisannagar IIC placed under suspension for negligence in duty

Bhubaneswar: The inspector in-charge (IIC), Sasmita Rana, was suspended by the Odisha DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal on Tuesday for alleged carelessness in duty, three days after a 52-year-old man set himself on fire outside the Kishan Nagar police station in the Salepur neighbourhood of Cuttack, Odisha.

"The police official will continue to be subject to the IG of Police, Central Range, Cuttack's disciplinary oversight during the duration of suspension. According to Rule 90 of the Odisha Service Code, she will be qualified to receive the Special Allowance (SA) and Dearness Allowance (DA), according to the official announcement.

Sources claim that Sainparua resident Gunanidhi Bisoi lit himself on fire because he was upset about not receiving justice from Kissannagar Police in a land dispute and assault case he had filed. He had 90% burns and was transferred from SCB Medical College and Hospital to a private hospital, where he passed away.

After his passing, Rana was the subject of a departmental investigation, and Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore had written to the Odisha DGP urging him to take action against her.

The DGP was also given notice by the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on June 24 instructing him to look into the incident and provide a report before the case's upcoming hearing on July 25.
