Forester caught taking bribe of ₹1 lakh in Balangir

Balangir: On Tuesday, vigilance officials arrested a Forester in Balangir district on bribery charges.
The Vigilance Department devised a trap after receiving an allegation that Harihar Swain, Forester, Sindhekela Beat, Bangomunda Forest Range, was demanding Rs 1,00,300 from labourers working on several Forest Department projects.
The labourers went to Swain to offer him the bribe as planned. While taking the bribe money, the Forester was caught red-handed. The full sum was retrieved and taken by the Vigilance sleuths from Swain's custody.
Following this, the Vigilance Department raided Swain's properties in several places, seizing Rs 17,2550 in cash.
In this matter, Sambalpur Vigilance has filed a complaint under the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. More research is being carried out.
