Ex Odisha Chief Secretary Bijay Patnaik to join Congress today
Bhubaneswar: Bijay Patnaik, a former Odisha chief secretary who retired in 2013, joined the Congress party on Friday. The retired bureaucrat, who had been in contact with the Congress leadership for the past year, met with them at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.
Patnaik, an IAS officer from the 1976 batch, was the state chief secretary from September 2010 to 2013. Prior to his appointment as the state's top administrator, he worked as the principal secretary to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from 2004 to 2010. During his tenure, he also served as secretary in a number of important departments, including the forest and water resources.
Following his retirement from government service, the state government appointed him to the Odisha Staff Selection Committee (OSSC) and the Odisha Human Rights Commission in 2013-14. (OHRC). Later, he became the project leader for Vedanta University, a position he held until 2017.
Suresh Routray, a senior Congress leader, and several retired bureaucrats and other retired officials are said to be in contact with Congress leadership about joining the party.
