Elections for 3 Rajya Sabha seats from Odisha on June 10

Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Thursday that elections to 57 Rajya Sabha seats, including three in Odisha, will be held on June 10.

On June 10, polling will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and voting will begin at 5 p.m.

The notification will be sent out on May 24, and nominations will be accepted until May 31. On May 31, those will be examined. The deadline to withdraw your candidacy is June 3.

The Commission has asked the Chief Secretaries of the states concerned to appoint a senior official from their respective states to ensure that the COVID-19 norms are strictly followed when preparing for the Rajya Sabha elections.

Prasanna Acharya, Sasmit Patra, and N Bhaskar Rao's terms are all set to expire on July 1. All three MPs are members of the ruling BJD.

Several party heavyweights are among the aspirants, including veterans like Prasanna Patasani and Ramesh Chandra Choupatnaik, who were officially assured of a seat in the Upper House by BJD president Naveen Patnaik during the 2019 elections. The notion of Naveen, who is now in New Delhi, sending non-political people to the House of the Elders is also being discussed in ruling party circles.

According to sources, Patra has a good chance of being re-elected due of his success in the Rajya Sabha and the fact that he only served a shortened term.
