BEd students seek relaxation in teacher recruitment criteria

Bhubaneswar: Final-year students from several teacher training institutes in Odisha have requested the state government to loosen the criteria and allow them to participate in the examination, which involves the "largest recruitment campaign of 7,540 regular government schoolteachers."

On Monday, the students filed a memorandum to the Director of Secondary Education (DSE) and the secretary of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) in this regard, according to sources.

The state government has directed the OSSC to begin the recruiting process for 7,540 ordinary high school teachers in order to assure quality education. The commission stated in its posting that candidates must have the appropriate qualifications for the position by the due date for online application submission (January 9, 2023).

Students in their last year of BEd and BHEd at ten teacher training institutes, including IGNOU and those associated with Ravenshaw and Berhampur universities, stated the recruitment will take place in three stages (preliminary exam, mains and document verification). They would have completed their course and be able to present final certificates by the time the document verification step began.

They encouraged the government to provide a 'passed/appearing' option throughout the recruitment application procedure.

Earlier this year, the Higher Education Department directed all universities, colleges, and teacher education institutes to complete UG/PG final exams by July 31 and publish the results by August 15.

Many institutions have finished their exams but have not yet released the results.
