Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reported 28 new Omicron cases, according to the Institute of Life Science in Bhubaneswar on Monday.

With this, the number of people in the state infected with this variant of COVID has risen to 103.

The patients' information is being awaited.

On Saturday, 14 Omicron cases were discovered, with 8 of them having a history of foreign travel. Four patients came from the Balasore district, as many from Sambalpur, and the remainder from Jajpur and Khurda.

On Wednesday, 24 of 218 samples sent for genome sequencing tested positive for this COVID variant. According to ILS director Ajay Parida, five of them had international travel experience, while the remaining 19 were local contacts.

Seven of the previous 23 cases were found in Keonjhar district, four in Khurda, three in Puri and Sambalpur, two in Boudh and Angul, and one in Jagatsinghpur and Balasore.

On December 21, two cases of Omicron were discovered for the first time in Odisha, followed by another two on December 23, four on December 26, one on December 29, five on December 30, and 23 on January 2.
