49 More Students Test Positive in Rayagada
Rayagada: In the midst of an increase in COVID cases, 49 students at MITS Engineering College in Rayagada, Odisha, tested positive for the virus on Monday.
According to sources, 5 college students tested positive for the virus on January 7. Following that, random COVID tests were performed, and 49 more people were found to be infected, bringing the total to 54.
"COVID cases are on the rise in the district, and students at a private college have been infected." To prevent the virus from spreading, Rayagada Collector Saroj Kumar Mishra declared Hostel A and B as micro containment zones and sealed the premises.
All infected students have been isolated at the hostel, and the district administration is providing necessary medical assistance, he said.
Contact tracing for those infected has also begun, and the college grounds are being sanitised, he added.
Notably, Rayagada experienced a sudden increase in COVID cases on Monday, with 82 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours compared to 31 the day before. There are currently 184 active cases in the district.
