Kandhamal: Odisha Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the fake certificate racket in Balangir district, and the School and Mass Education (SME) Department has suspended 12 teachers in Kandhamal district for alleged forgery.
According to sources, the process of identifying fake teachers was accelerated after the government faced criticism for taking too long to terminate their services.
The DEO, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, and other field functionaries were directed to verify certificates, mark sheets, training and other academic certificates, as well as caste certificates and service records, as soon as possible.
Request letters were sent to the authorities of several universities in the state, in addition to Andhra University, Kurukshetra University, Jammu-Kashmir University, and several other universities across the country, for verification of teachers' BEd certificates and mark sheets.
During verification, 12 teachers' certificates were discovered to be forged, and they were suspended, according to the sources. In 2022, the Orissa High Court ordered the state government to dismiss teachers who had submitted forged certificates during their recruitment in the Cuttack district.
Following that, the department directed the DEOs, BEOs, and DPCs to verify the teachers' information and submit information on those whose mark sheets, academic certificates, or service records were found to be suspicious so that appropriate action could be taken.
The directorates under the SME department were also directed to dismiss such teachers and file FIRs against them with the appropriate police stations.
