12-hour bandh in Kantabanji underway; separate district demanded

Balangir: The demand for district status for Kantabanaj block in Odisha's Balangir district was revived on Saturday with a 12-hour bandh called by the Zilla Sangharsh Samiti.
According to sources, the bandh disrupted normal life by closing all shops, markets, and business establishments. Vehicle movement was also hampered, and banks, schools, colleges, and offices remained closed.
While agitators held demonstrations in Tureikela, Muribahal, and Bangamunda blocks, several organizations and political leaders expressed their support for the bandh.
Notably, various organizations have been lobbying for Kantabanji town to be designated as a district. On November 24, 2022, a similar bandh was observed.
