Unsafe apartments in Bhubaneswar have become a nightmare for residents.
Loot incidents in Bhubaneswar have raised concerns about urban policing. Armed burglars are targeting apartments, leaving residents in fear. Recent crimes include lootings at Vishal Garden and Maitri Vihar.
The recent surge in burglary incidents in Bhubaneswar has raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of urban policing. What were once considered safe and comfortable high-rise apartments have now turned into sources of insecurity and vulnerability for their residents.
There has been a disturbing increase in looting, highlighted by a recent incident where armed burglars entered an apartment in the Pahala area, wielding swords and sharp-edged weapons. This has left many occupants of various apartments feeling panicked.
The criminals are primarily targeting locked homes within these complexes, causing sleepless nights for flat owners throughout the city.
A resident of one apartment complex expressed, “There is an urgent need for police patrolling. Perhaps the robbers would not have dared to enter the apartments if patrolling teams were stationed in key locations. We are living in constant fear now.”
Recent Loots from Flats in Bhubaneswar:
Last week, unidentified criminals allegedly looted valuables worth lakhs of rupees, including gold and silver jewelry, from four flats in the Vishal Garden apartment complex located at Uttara Chhak in Bhubaneswar.
Earlier in October, two burglars allegedly committed the heinous act of gang-rape against a woman after robbing her apartment in the Maitri Vihar area of Bhubaneswar. The woman was in her apartment with her young daughter when the burglars broke in. Eventually, the accused were apprehended by the Commissionerate Police.
In another incident, a miscreant stole 500 grams of gold ornaments worth lakhs from a scientist’s flat in an apartment in the Chandaka area on the outskirts of the capital city on September 14. The following day, the same apartment was targeted again, and gold jewelry valued at Rs 20 lakh was stolen from the flat of a software engineer while he and his wife were away celebrating Nuakhai in their village.
What Commissionerate Police Has Said:
Due to a rise in theft incidents in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has issued advisories urging residents to remain cautious and vigilant.
To combat the increasing risk of crime, the police recommend that apartment communities enhance their security measures. The Commissionerate Police has used social media to inform residents about the dangers posed by these criminals.
Additionally, they previously directed that IP-enabled cameras be installed at the entrance and exit points of apartments to help prevent theft.
