Puri: The police have laid out a set of guidelines for flying drones in Puri, particularly on the Bada Danda, the Grand Road, in an effort to curb unregulated usage of drones during Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra.

The rules will be strictly followed from Rath Yatra to Niladri Bije of the 12th century shrine's siblings deities.

"It has been observed that many private individuals/drone operators use drones for various purposes during the Rath Yatra period." Unregulated drone usage by inexperienced drone operators endangers devotees' safety. In the past, legal action was taken against a few private individuals for violating Drone Rules," according to a Puri advisory by the police.

The Puri police have issued an advisory for the flying of drones between June 20 and July 1, 2023, with the safety and security of Sri Jagannath Temple, Sri Gundicha Temple, the deities' chariots, and the safety and security of the devotees in mind.
