Bhubaneswar: Flights from the projected airport in Puri, Odisha, are expected to begin in 2022-23, according to Odisha Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, the minister said the Airport Authority of India (AAI) team during its recent visit has identified the location for the airport on the outskirts of Puri. It is expected that the Civil Aviation Ministry will give its approval for the location.
“If everything goes well, the airstrip and the construction of the other infrastructure will be completed in a year and the flight service under the UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik) scheme will begin from Puri during 2022-23,” he added.
“Apart from this, the government is cooperating with the Ministry for the commencement of flights from Rourkela (Sundargarh), Utkela (Kalahandi) and Jeypore (Koraput),” he added.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 1 this year had proposed to set up Sri Jagannath International Airport in Puri.
