Sambalpur: With the situation in violence-hit Sambalpur significantly improving, the district administration has relaxed the curfew in the western Odisha city.
In the city, the curfew has been extended by two hours. According to Sambalpur Collector Ananya Das, relaxation will now be available from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. beginning Tuesday.
The city's curfew, which had been imposed following large-scale violence and arson during the Hanuman Mahotsav celebrations on April 12 and 14, had so far been relaxed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Sunday, internet services were fully restored, and the administration relaxed the city's curfew from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Internet access has been suspended in the western Odisha city since April 13 as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of inflammatory and false messages amid the unrest.
It should be noted that stone-throwing and group clashes occurred during a motorcycle rally in Sambalpur on April 12 ahead of Hanuman Jayanti. At least ten police officers and several others were hurt. Many vehicles were also damaged, and some businesses were set ablaze. On April 14, the city was also rocked by violence. According to sources, the police have arrested around 100 people in connection with violence.
