Bhubaneswar: Polie arrested a real estate developer on Monday for allegedly defrauding two people of Rs 12 lakh by promising them plots of land in Bhubaneswar.
According to police sources, Sourabh Acharya, one of the duped individuals, approached the accused, Manoj Kumar Sahoo, for an apartment. Sahu had promised to allot a 2000 sq ft plot at the Bajrasena Construction project in Shiv Shakti Nagar, Pahala police limits, for Rs 43 lakh.
Acharya paid Rs 2 lakh as an advance for the plot in December of last year. However, Sahoo took his time in providing the plot and even began to avoid Acharya.
Acharya filed a complaint against Sahoo at the Mancheswar police station, suspecting him of wrongdoing. The police had filed a report and begun an investigation.
Meanwhile, another person filed a similar complaint against Acharya at the Mancheswar police station. After taking Rs 10 lakh, he accused Sahoo of defrauding him.
Sahoo was apprehended by the police and detained at the station. During questioning, Sahoo admitted to defrauding the two complainants after taking their money. The police have arrested Sahoo and are conducting additional investigations.
