Balangir: Two days after postal officials in Odisha's Balangir district discovered some fake certificates, police stepped up their investigation and found the racket at a coaching center here on Saturday.

Police have seized several forged mark sheets, certificates, verification reports, seals, and a diary, according to sources, and have detained the proprietors of the coaching center near Balangir College, Manoj Mishra and Alok Udgata, as well as eight candidates who had submitted the fake certificates, SDPO Tofan Bag told the media.

He stated that a special team had been formed to investigate the complaint lodged by Superintendent of Balangir Head Post Office Rajendra Pattnaik, who claimed that 37 candidates who had recently applied for vacancies in the department had produced fake matric certificates.

The Postal Department issued an advertisement about 10 days ago to fill 83 vacancies for branch post manager (BPM), assistant BPM, and daak sevak positions. During verification, discrepancies were discovered in 37 of the applicants' matric certificates, which were obtained from Uttar Pradesh. While these applicants scored above 98 percent and one hundred percent in English, they reportedly failed the department's English test on Thursday. When questioned, one student admitted to paying Rs 50,000 for her board examination certificate.

According to Bag, an investigation revealed that the Reliance Education Complex was the epicenter of the racket, and as a result, a raid was carried out. "Blank certificates from several universities and colleges were discovered in the institutes' computers," he said.

Seals, stamps, and a diary containing the names of those who paid for the certificates were also seized, he added.

The SDPO also stated that all evidence is being reviewed.
