An auto-rickshaw driver named Mitu Das was attacked with a knife by unidentified individuals on Sunday afternoon in Bhubaneswar. The incident occurred in the Bharatpur locality after Das had scheduled an online ride. He is currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital and is in critical condition.

In response to the attack, members of the auto-rickshaw drivers’ association gathered near Kalinga Studio Square, demanding the swift apprehension of those responsible for the assault.

“Mitu Das, a member of our auto-rickshaw drivers’ association, was brutally attacked by three assailants in front of his family. They chased him down and committed the crime while his father, mother, and children were present,” stated Dinabandhu Nayak, president of the Smart City Auto-Rickshaw Drivers’ Association, in an interview with OTV.

As local police intensify their investigation, tensions continue to rise in the area. Protests were ongoing at the time this report was filed.

In a related incident, on the night of January 27, a house owner allegedly stabbed his tenant following an argument in the Madhupatna locality of Cuttack. A case was registered, and the accused was subsequently detained by local police. The confrontation stemmed from an undisclosed issue, and in a fit of rage, the house owner attacked the tenant in his home.a
