Good Samaritan to be paid ₹5k for rushing road accident victims to hospital

Bhubaneswar: Whoever saves the life of an accident on the road through a rush into hospital within the "golden hour" will receive a monetary award of around five thousand dollars.
Following directions from the Centre, Odisha Government started working earlier this month on how the plan is to be implemented and deaths reduced.
Under the new plan, the MST would give every Good Samaritan with Rs 5,000 per event to help save the death of a motor vehicle victim by immediately giving aid to and rushing into the hospital/trauma centre in the course of the golden hour.
After the Central Scheme entered into force on October 15, the good Samaritan prize of the RS 2,000 declared that the Odisha government had already started.
The MoRTH would award the State Transport Division with Rs 5 lakh as initial grant in order to compensate the Good Samaritans.
The Department of Transport has, meantime, prompted the District Departments to establish a committee to assess the choices of good Samaritans for their awards, chaired by the Collector and SP/DCP, CDMO and RTO.
It's a catch, however. A Good Samaritan can be honoured up to five times a year.
The Government aims to inspire individuals to support victims of traffic accidents in emergencies and to save lives.
The 10 national awards will also be handed to the most valuable Good Samaritans who are picked from all those honoured during the year to get a Rs 1 lakh prize.
