Jajpur: A housewife in Mangalpur police station's Mahanti Patna village was alleged to have been murdered by her in-laws on Friday.
Babita Behera of Katikata had been married to Bhaskar Behera for almost five years, according to police sources, and she was routinely tormented by her husband and in-laws. According to Inabul Haq, inspector in charge of Mangalpur station, a family issue was previously handled with police intervention.
Babita's parents arrived at the hospital after learning that she had been admitted. However, they discovered her dead at the hospital and reported her to Mangalpur police on suspicion of being a victim of a murder plot.
Mangalpur police arrived at Jajpur Headquarteres Hospital and began investigating the crime before handing over the body for a post-mortem examination. According to police officials, the specific cause of death would be determined following the autopsy. Babita's sister Namita and mother-in-law Pramila Behera have also given testimonies to the police.
