Six Odisha districts are under yellow alert for fog

Bhubaneswar: In the midst of a fading cold wave, Odisha awoke to a gloomy Wednesday morning. Visibility was reduced in Bhubaneswar, Gopalpur, and Paradip due to dense fog, which hampered vehicular travel.

Dense fog is also expected in Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Nayagarh, and Cuttack until 8.30 a.m. on February 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Similuguda, with an average temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius, was the coldest area in the state this morning, followed by Kirei (9 degrees Celsius), G Udayagiri (9.4 degrees Celsius), Phulbani (9.5 degrees Celsius), Daringbai (10.5 degrees Celsius), and Jharsuguda (10.6).

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced minimal temperatures of 16 and 14.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Under the impact of the west disturbance, the state is also likely to have rainfall. While light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at a few locations in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Mayurbhanj between 8.30 a.m. on February 3 and 8.30 a.m. on February 4, a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lighting has been issued for one or two locations in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Mayurbhanj 

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected in many parts of North Odisha and a few parts of South Odisha. Thunderstorms and lightning are expected in one or two locations in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

During this time, hailstorms are also likely to hit Angul, Dhenkanal, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.
