STF seizes brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore in Balasore, nabs 2 drug peddlers

Balasore: Brown sugar worth more than Rs 1 crore was confiscated by Special Task Force (STF) from the Balasore railway station in Odisha, and two people were also detained in this connection.
A team from STF Bhubaneswar and officers from Sahadevkhunta police station conducted a raid on a location close to the railway station on Monday and apprehended the two people as a result of information concerning drug trafficking. Sk Raju and Amzad Khan, both from Sahadevkhunta, were named as the people who were arrested.
The team seized a motorcycle, 1.6 kg of brown sugar from the accused's possession, and other evidence. Raju and Amzad were detained and brought before the court after they were unable to present any documentation proving their possession of the illegal substance. According to sources, the seized brown sugar would be worth more than Rs 1 crore.
In this regard, the STF has filed a case under the NDPS Act of 1985, and additional investigation is ongoing.
It should be mentioned that during its special drive since 2020, the STF has captured more than 60 kg of brown sugar/heroin, 202 grammes of cocaine, 111 quintals of ganja, and 750 grammes of opium. Over 162 narcotics traffickers and sellers have also been detained during this time.
