Political violence: 1 killed, 4 critical in firing in Nayagarh village
Nayagarh: One person was murdered and four others got injuries when miscreants opened fire in Krushnaprasad village under Itamati region of Odisha's Nayagarh district on Monday.
The dead has been identified as Anirudha Nayak of Krushnaprasad village, according to sources.
The miscreants, who were said to be from the same area, opened fire on the victims while they were standing on the road, causing significant injuries.
According to Nayagarh Superintendent of Police Alekh Chandra Pahi, the injured were carried to the hospital, and one person died.
Though the specific cause of the tragedy is unknown, it is assumed that political rivalry and a land dispute between two parties prompted the violent attack.
The injured are being treated at the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital.
As tensions rose in the aftermath of the shooting incident, police officers hurried to the scene and began an investigation.
To prevent any escalation, police have been deployed in the vicinity. The SDPO and IIC concerned have been instructed to visit the location and monitor the situation, the SP stated.
Investigation is underway to identify the facts that led to the occurrence and trace individuals engaged in the shooting.
