Odisha Chief Minister Doubles Government Aid To Families Of Fallen Heroes
Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik authorised an increase in ex-gratia for kin of martyred Odia jawans from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
"Families of brave military or paramilitary personnel who make the ultimate sacrifice in combat or in the fight against terrorists would receive Rs 10 lakh from the government," according to a CMO release.
Since the Kargil War, the Odisha government has been providing financial help to the families of the martyrs. The compensation amount was first set at Rs 1 lakh, but it was increased to Rs 2 lakh in 2010 and Rs 5 lakh in 2012, according to the statement.
