Malkangiri: On Saturday night, security forces arrested a Maoist leader in a jungle in the Malkangiri district who was sought in both Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Malkangiri SP claimed that SOG and DVF forces had captured Maoist leader Laxman Padami during a search operation in Tulasi Hill, which is under the district's Mathili police jurisdiction. He was also in possession of a foreign-made firearm, which was taken by the security forces.

Laxman, a Maoist from the Kangerighati area, was involved in a number of violent and arson cases in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. The government of Odisha has set a 1 lakh rupee bounty on his head.

According to the SP, Laxman was being questioned by police, and a search operation had been stepped up in the region where he had been taken.
