Jagatsinghpur: A 30-year-old man from the Korania village in the Naugaon tehsil of Odisha's Jagatsinghpur district has been detained by the police for reportedly making provocative and offensive comments online about the Prophet Muhammad and Mahatma Gandhi.

The suspect was revealed to be Jayaprakash Mohanty, a contract employee at a reputable business in Paradip.

According to sources, after Mohanty's offensive Facebook post against the Prophet Muhammad and the Muslim community went viral, members of the local community organisation brought the matter up with the police. Additionally, he wrote derogatory phrases regarding Mahatma Gandhi.

Following that, on Wednesday, Raghunath Tudu, a police officer at the Naugaon police station, filed a complaint suo motu against Mohanty under Sections 153(A), 295(A), 505 of the IPC, and Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000.

He was then taken into custody and brought before the court.
