Konark Festival Kicks Off After 2-Year Lull In Odisha
Konark: The 33rd Konark Dance Festival, set against the backdrop of the Sun Temple, was opened on Thursday by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The five-day festival kicked off with a performance by Malaysian Odissi dancer Ramli Ibrahim and his Sutra Foundation company. His choreography was centered on Lord Rama and Devi Sita.
This was followed by a Kathak performance by Rajendra Gangani and his ensemble from the Guru Kundanlal Gangani Foundation in New Delhi, titled 'Chhand-Laya-Gati.'
On the opening day of the festival, CM Naveen Patnaik welcomed tourists and stated that they will be able to experience the beauty of Indian traditional dance styles being performed by some creative artistes from India and around the world.
On the opening day of the dance festival, Culture Minister Aswini Kumar Patra and Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera were among those present.
The Konark Celebration, conceived as a festival of Indian classical dances, aims to promote Konark and Odisha as tourist destinations. The entire Konark vibrates with the sounds of ghungroo bells, flute, and pakhawaj throughout the festival.
A Crafts Mela is also hosted at Konark's Urban Haat, which adds to the festival's enchantment. On the same days, the International Sand Art Festival is held at Konark's Chandrabhaga Beach, attracting many tourists.
