Illegal firecracker unit explodes in Ganjam, six member family injured
Berhampur: On Wednesday, a firecracker explosion in Odisha's Ganjam district injured at least six people, all of them belonged to the same family.
The family members of Dandapani Behera of Beruhabadi village under Kodala police limits were preparing firecrackers in their house when the explosion occurred, according to sources. The residents first had no idea what had transpired due to the deafening sound of the explosion.
They went to Dandapani's house, which was filled with smoke, after hearing the cries of injured family members. The injured were transported to Kodal hospital by the villagers. All of the members of the family had suffered 50% burn injuries.
As their health worsened, five injured people were transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
A police team from Kodala, together with the Purusottampur Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), proceeded to the village after being notified and began an inquiry.
According to the sources, the family was creating firecrackers without the authorities' approval.
