Gudvela BDO caught red-handed while taking Rs 1.80 lakh bribe

Balangir: On Monday in Balangir, Odisha, vigilance officers detained a block development officer (BDO) who had accepted a bribe of Rs 1.8 lakh.
The Vigilance Department put up a trap when a contractor said that Binod Kumar Naik, BDO of the Gudvela block, demanded Rs 1.5 lakh to assign him new block work estimated at Rs 30 lakh and Rs 30,000 for the works previously completed.
The contractor went to the BDO to deliver the requested sum as per the plan. The Vigilance sleuths caught Naik in the act of taking the bribe and recovered the full sum.
Following the confiscation of bribe money, the Vigilance carried out three simultaneous searches of Naik's properties to look for disproportionate assets.
In this regard, the Sambalpur Vigilance has filed a complaint under the PC Amendment Act, 2018 and is doing additional research.
