Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police detained five people on Wednesday for allegedly selling tickets for the FIH Men's Hockey World Cup match between India and Wales, which was played on Tuesday at Kalinga Stadium in Odisha's capital.

According to sources, they were selling Rs 100, Rs 200, and Rs 500 tickets outside the stadium for Rs 1,000, Rs 2,200, and Rs 4,000, respectively. They were also selling tickets for matches slated for January 19, 24, and 29.

The fraudsters had also tweeted on their individual social media pages about tickets being available for the ongoing Marquee event's matches. When they received messages from potential buyers, they texted them to meet them near Kalinga Stadium to retrieve the tickets once they paid the fee.

Saheed Nagar police nabbed the crooks after receiving the information. Saroj Sethi (23), Saroj Kumar Bal (37), Lingaraj Mohanty (31), Md Tahim, and Rashmi Sahu have been named as the arrested suspects (32).

"They are locals of Nayapalli and we have seized 35 tickets and Rs 10,3oo in cash from them. "Teams will be formed to investigate such unlawful operations," Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh informed the reporters.

The Hockey World Cup, which started on January 13, will end on January 29. The games are being held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar and the newly constructed Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela.
