ED attaches assets worth Rs 1.88 cr of ex-Odisha govt cleaning staffer
Bhubaneswar: Under the anti-money laundering statute, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached the assets of a former cleaning assistant working for the Odisha government valued Rs 1.88 crore.
According to sources, the properties are owned by Lingaraj Jena, a former'safei mohareer' (cleaning helper) assigned to the office of the extra sub-collector (Settlement) in Puri district.
The ED's money laundering case comes from an Odisha vigilance directorate case against Jena for suspected ownership of disproportionate assets.
According to the vigilance directorate's charge sheet, Jena "illicitly enriched" himself and his family members by accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, totaling Rs 1.88 crore, according to a PTI report.
The ED investigation in the case registered under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) discovered that Jena obtained monetary earnings from illicit activity, disguised it, and invested it in the acquisition of various assets.
