Bhubaneswar: With the overnight temperature in Odisha dropping to 5.6°C in the last 24 hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a cold wave warning for many districts in the state for the next two days on Saturday.

"Northwesterly/northerly dry and cold wind at lower levels is penetrating across Odisha, and under its influence, an isolated cold wave is very likely in some portions of Odisha during the next two days," the MeT office stated in a special advisory.

It further said that there will be no large change in the night temperature) during the next 2 -3 days and the mercury will gradually rise by 2-4°C in the subsequent period. “The minimum temperature is very likely to remain 3-5°C below normal at many places in the state during the next 2-3 days,” it added.

Notably, the mercury plummeted below 15°C at 31 places in the state in the last 24 hours. The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 11.5°C and 11°C respectively.
