Balangir series accident turns out to be a pre-planned murder
Balangir: After reportedly trying to pass off a pre-planned murder as a hit-and-run case, a landgrabber ran out of luck when Balangir police nabbed him while fleeing Odisha.
The accident occurred on Saturday, when a pillion rider, Srikant Bag, died and a biker, Sanu Nayak, was injured after being hit by a mini truck near the RTO square. The two-wheeler collided with an MUV, then the mini-truck collided with another wheat-laden truck, which slammed into a tree.
The vehicle registration on the front of the little truck had been darkened, and a wrong plate had been placed to the back. Chitta Nayak was caught at Therubali in Rayagada after police received a complaint from Srikant's family. He had pretended to be injured following the collision and was attempting to flee to Visakhapatnam under the guise of seeking treatment there.
According to sources, the accused's goal was Sanu, who had left home on a motorcycle with Srikant after getting a call. After crossing Chitta's house, a mini-truck began following him.
Sanu's family members claim that Chitta had been pressuring them to sell a plot of land and had threatened to kill them. When the accused tried to assassinate Sanu's brother Bhuban Nayak in a similar fashion last week, they came near. The incident, however, was not reported to the authorities.
According to sources, Chitta was a member of a tender fixing and land snatching group who had been on the run since his accomplice Raju Nag was killed five years ago.
"The hit-and-run case was a pre-planned murder, and Chitta is the main suspect," says the prosecutor. He's plotting to assassinate Sanu Nayak's family in order to take over their prime land. The murder was committed by three people, including Chitta. "There were two people in the mini-truck, and an investigation is underway to determine who was operating the vehicle," Balangir SP Kusalkar Nitin Dagdu said.
CCTV video and technical analyses, he claimed, will aid in identifying the driver.
