6 forest officials injured in jumbo attack in Balasore

Balasore: In the Kuldiha wildlife sanctuary in Odisha's Balasore district, at least six members of the forest department were hurt, according to reports on Thursday.

The incident happened after a wild elephant wandered into Khumkhut village on Wednesday night while looking for food in a nearby forest in the sanctuary area. The residents became concerned as the monster devoured and damaged standing paddy crops.

Following a report from the villagers, a group of forest officials and Panchalingeswar Forester hurried to the scene and made an effort to drive the pachyderm back into the dense forest, according to the officials.

The wild elephant, however, pursued the members of the forest crew and began to assault them with its trunk.

While the squad members were hurt, the attack also caused damage to their van.

Later, the Kuldiha Forest Ranger and his team sped over to the spot and kept an eye on the elephant's movements.
