Odisha's anti-corruption Vigilance sleuths apprehended a Junior Engineer and a Junior Clerk from Cuttack and Kendrapada districts, respectively, on Thursday for allegedly accepting bribes.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha's anti-corruption Vigilance sleuths apprehended a Junior Engineer and a Junior Clerk from Cuttack and Kendrapada districts, respectively, on Thursday for allegedly accepting bribes.

Bauribandhu Parida, a Junior Engineer in Cuttack's Badamba Block, was apprehended while accepting a Rs 30,000 bribe from a contractor) in connection with a development work under the MGNREG scheme.

According to a vigilance release, the entire bribe money has been recovered from the accused.

Following the trap, searches are being conducted in two locations in Parida from the Disproportionate Assets angle. So far, Rs 3 lakhs in cash has been recovered from Parida's house in Balikuda, Cuttack, during searches. A car worth Rs 15 lakh and RSD documents for a plot purchased recently for approximately Rs 30 lakh have been recovered. The search is still ongoing.

In another case, Manas Dhala, a Dealing Assistant (Jr. clerk) in the office of the Block Education Officer (BEO) at Patamundai in Kendrapada, was apprehended by Vigilance officials while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a teacher for the withdrawal of his arrear salary, which had been outstanding for more than a year.

The entire bribe money has been recovered and seized from the accused Dhala. Following the trap, searches are being conducted at two locations in Dhala from the DA angle.

Separate charges have been filed against the two, and an investigation is underway. More information is awaited.
